That’s my name. Backwards. If you didn’t already guess that. People don’t really call me anything different. Occasionally “Bsoong”. Sometimes I get “Guy with the Pointy Hair” or “Dude with the Glasses”. “Jimmy Neutron” is pretty popular, too. The story, as far as I know it, about the process of naming me, goes a little something like this:
Scene: In the hospital recovery room, after a child is born. A young Taiwanese American couple sits, contemplating. The television is on.
Parent #1: What should we name him?
Parent #2: I don’t know.
(NBC’S Today Show comes on; a African American newscaster with a winning smile by the name of Bryant Gumbel appears)
Parents look at one another.
And the rest is history.
